Sweet 19!!

Well goodness how the heck did I just turn 19................ I feel like I can't possibly be that old but i guess i am hahaha;)

This week was pretty good! I got better from my sickness (thank goodness) but then on Wednesday we travelled to Sunyani which is about an hour east of Techiman for a special training from President Cosgrave which was sooooo amazing!!! We talked about having faith and diligence on our missions and in our lives and that was surely an awesome thing to have a training on! I always love hearing from President Cosgrave! That guy is super powerful and I know he helps me so much all the time here! The thing that really stuck out to me was a video we watched at the training that was a 1-2 tag team knockout of the century from President Eyring and Elder Holland on why a mission isn't supposed to be easy.  HOLY COW that was like the most powerful thing that I have ever watched in my entire life.  If you get a chance to look for it and watch it, I think it was titled Missionary Work and the Atonement, if you search that on google you will find it, it was 10-11 minutes of straight awesomeness. It applies to more than just being a missionary though, it applies to your life. I know it does.

Unfortunately this week, the baptism with Aw didn't happen.. But we are really hoping and praying that he will continue to want to learn more and keep coming to church and want to be baptized.  I really am hoping that this week will be the week for him because this transfer ends on Sunday and Elder Snow and I both think that one of us will be transferred, so I am just hoping and praying that us two will at least have 1 baptism together..

One other thing that was strange this week started last Monday night, i broke out my blanket that i brought for the first time since I've been in Ghana. I know I told mom and dad that i would never use it, and I even told Elder Snow the same thing like my first week out, cause its so dang hot in Ghana but let me tell you I am glad I brought it, because I have been getting SOOO COLD at night and man if i didn't have that blanket i may have died hahah;)

Today was for sure one of the most memorable birthdays i have ever had and ever will have!! It started last night, when Elder Snow and I just stayed up til Midnight so I could open my presents (packages) from home!! Then this morning we just did the normal P day stuff, washed our clothes, cleaned our room up, cleaned the bathroom, all that good stuff. Then we went to a hotel and had PIZZA!!! woooooo!!! It was so awesome!! Except it wasn't at all anywhere close to a cheap meal haha, but it was soooo good!! us and the Zone Leaders went there and totally enjoyed!! it was nice! And now we are here emailing and just getting everyone's letters and happy birthday wishes was just amazing:)

I truly do love all of you so much and I am thankful for all of your examples in my life!! I know that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is the ONLY true church on the face of this Earth. I know that our Heavenly Father has an amazing plan for us and he truly wants us to be happy. He hears our prayers, and I know and I promise that he answers them.  I know that He sent His son, Jesus Christ to live a perfect life, set the perfect example for us, establish the true church on the Earth, and then offer Himself as a sacrifice for us, that we are able to put off the natural man, to put off sin, and to  repent of our sins, and through the Atonement of Jesus Christ, be able to be cleansed from those sins. We truly will be forgiven of our sins if we truly repent of our sins. I hope all of you can keep developing your faith in these things, for they truly are the most important things for us in our lives. I know that Families are Forever!!! We lost one of the best men that I have ever met in my life this week, and I know that Great Grandpa is with all of us, helping us out in our lives, loving us, and I know that we will see him again!!!

I love you all, have a great week!!

Sad News From Home

Elder Porritt's Great Grandfather passed away today.  It has been hard for his family and a very sad day for him.

Here is a couple of things that he said about his Grandfather:

"Man that was tough to read your letter.. I love Grandpa so much and I sure am going to miss having him around.  I really do look up to his example of Enduring to the End as well because i know that he was still going STRONG in the Gospel to the last dying breath and that is what we need to do as well! there is no better example than that!"

"I know that Families are Forever!!! We lost one of the best men that I have ever met in my life this week, and I know that Great Grandpa is with all of us, helping us out in our lives, loving us, and I know that we will see him again!!! "

Kintampo Waterfalls

Hello Everyone!!

This week was okay but ended kinda crappy.. We have been doing well with Aw and he is still progressing to want to be baptized and we still think he will be baptized this coming Sunday!!

Also with Dennis and Julius, Julius returned and he has been coming a few times, but Dennis will not be returning to Techiman because his parents enrolled him in a different school for his last semester in high school, so that is pretty discouraging but i know that he will find the church and the missionaries in Sunyani because there are missionaries right by the school he attends now!

Yesterday was when the week started to get bad, i woke up yesterday with the worst headache and stomach ache and back pain that I've ever had like ever.. and i barely made it the 30 feet across the hall to the chapel for Sacrament, but right after the Sacrament i went and got back into bed for the rest of the day and woke up at about 8 pm and just felt awful, and i didn't know what to do or what was wrong and then i threw up which honestly was like the best thing, cause after that i felt like a million times better, then i went to bed and woke up this morning with my stomach feeling like the exact same as yesterday but we went to the Kintampo Waterfalls today which was an hour drive there and an hour back which was the worst two hours of driving I've ever been a part of because of all the bumps and everything was just killing me haha..   The waterfalls were absolutely beautiful and it was such a fun activity and ill send pictures of it all!! but man being sick is not fun at all.. We think its food poisoning from the fufu i ate on Saturday night but our mission nurse says that if its not gone by tomorrow night that i have to go get a malaria test soo i guess we will just hope and pray that its not too serious but i have been feeling a bit better throughout the day today so i guess that's good:)

I hope everything is going well for everyone back home and i hope you are all enjoying the snow!!! i miss the snow a lot so you all should be enjoying right now!!!

I love you all!!

Out for 4 months!

Hello Everyone!!

I hope all of you are having a wonderful week!! I still can't believe it is 2016 and i have been in Ghana for almost 4 months!! Time really is flying!!

This week was another struggle for teaching but man the lessons we actually were able to teach were soooo awesome and the spirit was so thick and strong there.  We still haven't heard anything from D and J, the two high school kids who were about to get baptized, but we think they will be returning and coming back asap because school started back up today for them so they have to be here i guess.

The last two weeks we have been teaching a man whose name is Am.  He is so powerful and has truly been prepared to hear the Gospel.  He graduated high school a year or two ago and has been just doing nothing since then and he heard of the church and showed up at our apartment/the chapel one night and wanted to know what we were all about and so we have been teaching him quite a bit and he is so awesome and really understands everything so well.  He asks us all the time about when he can be baptized and he is so excited to have found the only true church on the earth. He also shares the Gospel with his friends like every day and i think he is going to be excited when we tell him that he can serve a mission because he always wants other people to know what he found to be true!! he is an awesome investigator and soon, he is going to be an awesome member of the Church.

So that's how our teaching has been the last week, but man its getting more humid here every day which is nice cause the dry weather has been killing us but man with the humidity rising, it just feels that much hotter every day and I don't know which one i like worse, the dry or the wet heat.. They both are not easy here haha.

Thats about all for this week.  I hope everyone is doing well back home and i hope you all know that i love you and pray for you all daily! I know there is nothing i would rather be doing than serving my Heavenly Father right now. It is the best feeling in the world to know that i can bring the truth to those who dont have it yet. I know that the Church is true and I know that Thomas S. Monson is a true prophet on the Earth today and if we follow his guidance, we cannot be led astray!!  I love you all so much!! Have a wonderful week!!

Happy New Years

Happy New Years Everyone!!

This week was pretty slow as far as teaching because its still the Holidays here and holy crap people here go INSANE on New Years. There was a constant sound of fireworks from about 11:30 pm - 4:00am.

This week was however pretty fun.  We went to Kumasi on Wednesday because Elder Snow had to renew his Non Citizen ID card because you have to renew it every year so we went to Kejetia Market which is the HUGE market in Kumasi. It is the 2nd biggest market in Africa and yep it is basically endless.  And there is seriously over a million people there. I am dead serious its like just a sea of people and a sea of shops and food and its the coolest/worst thing I've seen on my mission so far haha!! But we had a pretty fun day!!

Then on New Years day we had a branch party and had quite a few people show up which was nice but for some reason the people here will flock if there is free food but they still won't come to Church on Sunday...

Anyway that is about it for the Elders here in Techiman.  I hope everyone back home had a great week!!

I love you all and I want you to know that I know that the church is true and that we have a living Prophet today who, if we follow, we will not go astray!! The Book of Mormon is true and we will truly come closer to Jesus Christ and our Heavenly Father by reading from its pages!! I love you all.

Love Elder Porritt
