E-Mail #2 on first day

Okay so i have a few more minutes right now to email you.  I wanted to tell you about what happened in the airport yesterday.

We were in line to get some pizza at the JFK airport and some random guy came up to us and asked us which mission we were going to and we told him Kumasi and he was like Oh that is awesome! and then he pulled out a hundred bucks and was like here take this and all of you guys go get some snacks for the plane ride and for the mission because you wont have access to american snacks after this and we were so amazed!! It was so awesome!!  So about 20 minutes later we were walking to the place in the airport to get some snacks and the same guy came up and found us again and was like hey i was looking for you guys again!! i wanted to give you more money to get some snacks for the elders from africa so you can share some american snacks with them and he gave us another hundred.  So we had 200 dollars for snacks!! We got like 75 in jerky so hopefully the people here like jerky hahaha!

But it was so amazing that members have such a big heart and are willing to give so much to the missionaries!!

Other than that, everything is going good!  We have time for basketball or soccer(everyone here calls it futbol) in about an hour so I am pretty excited about that haha!! 

I hope everything back home is going good!! I dont know what day my Pday is yet but i guess I will find out soon and I will let you know!! Have a good week!

First e-mail

WOOOOOO I am here!!  

The airplane ride was quite a pain just because it was so long!! And it was nearly impossible to get any sleep on the flight because it was pretty loud the whole time. But we arrived here about an hour ago.  Right now it is 11:50 here so i'm guessing it is about 5:50 back home. I think it is about a 6 hour difference.  But anyway today has been crazy already. We got checked in and have just been working on paperwork stuff.  

Well I have to go eat lunch now so I guess I will talk to you guys as soon as I can!!

Shoutout Thank you for clothing for the Missionaries!

Missionaries from Africa have so little, but are so grateful for what they are given.  Our missionaries from out of Africa have once again answered the clarion call for help.  They seized an opportunity to serve and they haven't even started their formal training in the MTC.

Elder Brandt carried clothes for sister missionaries, Elder Lierd brought hundreds of glasses, Elder Walch brought clothes including missionary pants for his brother's Eagle project, Elder Ellett brought p-day clothes and sister clothing they collected, and Elder Porritt helped Elder Morford with his six suitcases of donated clothing.  What a labor of love from the family and friends and of course from the missionaries.  They love the African already and this is so needed.

Here is an amazing experience the American missionaries had at JFK yesterday:

The Elders were in line to get pizza at JFK and a man came up and was nice and asked them where they were going. He pulled out $100 and asked the elders to get snacks for the plane and to have on their mission. Twenty minutes later he found them again and said he wanted to give them more money to buy American candy to give the African missionaries in the MTC. So he gave them another $100 and said that when he was a missionary, he wished someone would have sent him some snacks and that he wanted the children in Africa to have American candy. (What is so wonderful about this is that we do not know his name.)

And He is Off!

Packing is no small deal!

Hunter is now set apart as a full time missionary of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.  He is now known as Elder Porritt.

And He is off.  Here today, Ghana tomorrow!  We love you and will miss you, Elder Porritt.
